Marginally Useful Updates

Well, we made the decision to close this winter from December 1 to March 1 next year. It is not an easy one but after five years we have found that the break is a necessary thing in our life. That coupled with the news that we will have no restaurants open during that time kind of iced it. ( sure wish someone would buy a restaurant here and actually run it for a whole year!!)  We will be taking reservations for next year during that time so call or e-mail. We also have our first grandchild due in March or April some time so instead of going to Mexico for the first two weeks of March we will be home awaiting the new one and open for business. Whew, what a summer. Thanks to all who come and keep coming and keeping our dream alive.

As things wind down, Lindy and I have taken some time to play. I went to Weiser Idaho in October with some friends from Sierra Valley to hunt for Chukkar and Pheasant. We did well and drank some good whiskey to. Lindy and I met a couple of frequent guests in June lake Loop last week for a few days of rest and relaxation and hiking. We hiked the first day and watched it snow the next 2. I did manage to fish Hot Creek the last day in a cold wind. In fact the water froze at my tip and I had trouble casting. Speaking of fishing, the Yuba is not bad right now. Went out with Leslie and Karen the other day and caught a few, all smallish on a dry with a midge or caddis dropper. Same thing worked on Hot Creek. Remember, the Yuba is open all year!!

The gas station in Downieville is currently closed so right now the only place to buy gas is in Town right next to us. Bassetts is closed November 1 so scratch them off the list as well. Don't know what their plans are for winter so snowmobile folks will have to plan gas if they ride to Bassetts.

October is almost over and it is still warm, but the cool weather is on the way which means winer actually. There is zero snow so hiking is still excellent. Some of our summer guests came this late October to hike. Actually just Scott and his pal Jonathon and they hiked all over the lakes basin and enjoyed the last meal at the iron Door and more than one cocktail at the Coyote Bar and Grill. We also got rid of four bottles of wine on the deck one night and a little Knob Creek Whiskey. Hey, what do you expect from two attorneys from the bay area and a couple of willing Innkeepers???

The lakes are giving up lots of fish and some are fairly nice. Gold Lake has been producing some decent fish. Blown up worms, power bait and trolling with flashers is working.

We added a new page: Area lakes/Info. Check it out. It is pictures of various lakes with descriptions of how to find it and some info. It will grow as we get to more lakes. Want to remind everyone that we carry beer (Pale Ale, Bud and Landshark) Wine (Merlot, Red, Chardonnay, Sonata) and now Champagne (Brut Freixent) in small bottles. Also hats, T-shirts, fleece vests and sweatshirts. In the office we have a pool table, DVD selection, multiple books, dart board and an array of games that can be played in the cabins. All this with a computer for internet and wireless. But wait, its free!! Sound like Billy Mays??

Had a group of Bird watchers here as June is good for that venue. If you are interested in that endeavor try looking at www.seeingbirds.com The fella who does this is quite accomplished, fun the have around and has captured great photos. If you are looking for more Yuba River drainage shots try http://jeffsbirds.shutterfly.com/1306.

I talked with Don Phillips and he says Big Springs will be closed forever.  Something changes I will show it here.

Interested in real estate in Sierra City? Try www.jk-realestate.com to see what is available in the area. There are some real good buys.
